How to vote in Milton

Everything you need to cast your ballot on Election Day, Monday, October 26 - who can vote, where, and what to bring. This is the Town of Milton's information, in plain language.

Can you vote?

You can vote in this election if all four are true:

Don't live in Milton? Own or rent property in Milton but live somewhere else? You can still vote here as a non-resident elector, and so can your spouse. If you have property in more than one ward, pick one address and vote in that ward.

Your name should be on the voters' list. It takes about a minute to check.

The online update period has closed. If you're not on the list, or your details are out of date, you can fix it at your polling station on Election Day - bring ID showing your name and Milton address.

Voter notification cards were mailed in late September. Bring yours to speed things up - but if you didn't get one and you're eligible, you can still vote with acceptable ID.

Where to vote on Election Day

On October 26 you can vote at any polling station in your own ward, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Your voter notification card lists your voting locations. Not sure which ward you're in? Check the Town's ward map

Vote by mail

Requests for a Vote by Mail kit closed on September 28. Already have a kit? The deadline to mail it back was October 15, so drop your completed return envelope off at Town Hall, 150 Mary St., by 8 p.m. on October 26.

How to fill in your kit (Town of Milton)

Vote by proxy

Can't vote in person or by mail? You can appoint another eligible Milton voter to vote for you. You both fill out and sign the Voting Proxy Appointment Form (Form 3), then have it certified in person at Town Hall, 150 Mary St., during regular business hours. The Clerk needs original, certified or notarial copies of valid ID for both of you. The deadline to have it certified is 5 p.m. on Election Day, October 26.

Both of you must already be on the voters' list. A person can act as proxy for only one voter, unless they are voting for a relative. Holding a Power of Attorney doesn't let you vote for someone - executors, trustees and other representatives still need a certified proxy form.

What to bring

If you're on the voters' list, bring one piece of ID showing your name and address. No photo needed.

    Last day to mail back a Vote by Mail kit.

  4. October 26

    Election Day - polls open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Proxy forms must be certified by 5 p.m.; Vote by Mail envelopes can be dropped at Town Hall until 8 p.m.
