Privacy Policy

What we collect

We collect only what you give us, and it depends on what you do here:

• Event sign-ups and tickets - your name, email, phone number, Milton address, optional age range, which events you picked and how many seats.
• Contributions - your name, email, phone, full address, and the amount, which election law requires us to record.
• Contact and volunteer forms - your name (optional), email and/or phone, and your message.
• Text messages - if you text our campaign number, we keep the conversation so the team can reply, and we record opt-outs so we stop texting you.

Our servers also record basic technical data to prevent spam and abuse. Site analytics are anonymous: we store a scrambled (hashed) form of your IP - never the raw address - along with coarse device type and which pages were visited. The site also saves a small first-party value in your browser (localStorage) that remembers which link brought you here; it identifies the link, not you, and we use no advertising cookies or third-party trackers.

How we use it

We use your information to run the things you asked for - event tickets and reminders, contribution receipts, volunteering - and to keep you updated about this campaign. We do not sell, rent, or trade your information, and we will only contact you about this campaign. One exception, required by law: if you contribute more than $100 in total, the Municipal Elections Act requires your name and address to appear in the campaign's public financial statement filed with the Town Clerk.

Who processes your data

Like nearly every website, we run on trusted service providers who process data on our behalf: website hosting and database (Vercel and Upstash), email delivery (Resend), and text messaging (Twilio). When you type your address into a sign-up form, the suggestions are looked up through OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service. These providers may process data outside Canada, and each is bound by its own privacy and security commitments. We never hand your information to advertisers or data brokers.

How long we keep it

Contribution records are kept as long as the Municipal Elections Act requires (through the campaign's filing and audit period). Sign-up, contact, and volunteer information is kept for the duration of the campaign and then deleted, unless you ask us to remove it sooner.

Your choices

You can ask us to update or delete your information, or to stop contacting you, at any time - email info@zainab4mayor.ca. Every campaign email has an unsubscribe link, and you can reply STOP to any campaign text to stop texts immediately. (Records the law requires us to keep, like contributions, stay in the books even if we stop contacting you.)
