A Toronto man stands convicted of allowing a vehicle to be operated without insurance three years after a Mississauga man was killed in a horrific car crash on No. 5 Sideroad.

Halton police say the vehicle involved in the May 25, 2012 crash was the subject of a rental agreement between the driver and Toronto-based vehicle rental company, Eleven Star Car and Truck Rental.

Halton police investigated the horrific single-vehicle crash — a Honda civic rollover between Fourth and Fifth Lines — that killed passenger Haseeb Kamal, 21, and injured three others.

Police say they found three people, including the man who died, lying outside the car, which was destroyed.

The vehicle wasn’t covered by a valid auto insurance policy, according to police.

Asim Ali, 28, was convicted of causing or permitting a motor vehicle to be operated without insurance.
