The Region of Halton added 250 more employees to a list of top earners in the public service last year, as a Halton Healthcare Services (HHS) chief of staff topped the list overall locally by taking home $425,400.

The Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act (Sunshine List) was released today (Friday) and lists those making more than $100,000 annually.

HHS Chief of Staff Lorne Martin earned $425,400 in salary last year.

At the Region of Halton, Associate Medical Officer of Health Dr. Monir Taha was paid $271,917; Halton Police Chief Stephen Tanner, $271,856; and Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Jane Maccaskill, $264,942.

Overall, the Region had 749 employees make the Sunshine List in 2014. Last year, the administration had nearly 500 people paid beyond the marker.

The City of Burlington’s top paid employee was general manager Scott Steward at $227,077, followed by general manager Kimberley Phillips at $185,505 and executive director of corporate Allan Magi with $180,473.

In the Town of Milton, CAO Bill Mann was paid $219,938; director of corporate services and treasurer Linda Leeds, $193,390; and community services director Jennifer Reynolds, $193,390.

CAO Ray Green was the top paid employee at the Town of Oakville with $219,905, followed by commissioner of community development Jane Clohecy and commissioner of corporate Gord Lalonde both making $201,764.

Across all three municipalities, there were 367 employees on the Sunshine List.

Between both regional school boards, public school board director David Euale earned $228,054; while the Catholic board’s director of education Paula Dawson took home $217,594; and associate director with the public board Stuart Miller made $181,474.

At Queen’s Park, Oakville MPP and Labour Minister Kevin Flynn was paid $159,384.

HHS, which oversees Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital, as well as hospitals in Milton and Georgetown, had 131 employees on the list.

Apart from Martin, HHS president and CEO Denise Hardenne earned $402,265, and medical microbiologist Dr. Neil Rau made $309,155.

Among fire chiefs in Halton, Milton’s Brian Ellsworth was paid $172,418, Burlington’s Anthony Bavota made $165,324, and Oakville’s Lee Grant, $166,981.
