Habitat for Humanity Halton and Habitat for Humanity Mississauga have merged to form Habit for Humanity Halton-Mississauga.
“We will be moving forward as equal partners, striving to create more homeownership opportunities throughout Halton Region and the city of Mississauga,” said Hugh Hyndman, board chair of Habitat for Humanity Halton-Mississauga. “This dream of working together as a team would not have been possible without the cooperation and enthusiasm of both the Halton and Mississauga staff, their board members and the members of the task force that have been working for several months to execute the merger and create significant and positive changes in both organizations.”
The new Habitat Halton-Mississauga board of directors is now comprised of 15 members all of whom live or work in either Mississauga or Halton.
“The merger is a big step toward strengthening our mission and realizing our potential for significant growth, both in our organization and in our communities,” said John Gerrard, CEO, Habitat Halton-Mississauga. “By working together as a team, we will be able to build more homes, help more families and raise a greater awareness of the impact we have on reducing the cycle of poverty.”
The newly-merged Habitat affiliate will now serve communities with a combined population of one million. This will include an estimated 16,000 people/families that will be in need of some form of affordable housing over the next five years.
Over the next few months, the organization will re-visit Halton’s 75 in 5 plan and Mississauga’s 15 in 5 plan to find a strategic focus that works for both communities and creates the largest impact possible.
