Campbellville defenceman named OUA East rookie and defenceman of year.
Spencer Abraham has set the bar awfully high for the remainder of his university hockey career.
The Campbellville 21 year old — coming off a 28-point (5g, 23a) season with the Queen’s Gaels — was named the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) East Rookie of the Year and Defenceman of the Year Tuesday.
He also grabbed a spot on the first-team all-star squad.
The accolades could continue for Abraham next week, when he heads to Halifax for the Canadian Interuniversity Sports (CIS) awards banquet.
He’s nominated for rookie of the year and the all-rookie team.
His Gaels finished the season at 13-12-1 before bowing out to McGill in the OUA East semifinals.
Refusing to be limited by a meager 15th-round draft selection, the local blueliner went on to play 265 OHL games, collecting 99 points along the way.
He recorded 35 of those last season as an overager with the Erie Otters, helping them reach the West Conference final.
