A Burlington resident will once again serve the Conservation Halton board of directors as its chair.
Conservation Halton held its 59th inaugural board meeting on Feb. 26 at its administration office at 2596 Britannia Rd. in north Burlington
John Vice was acclaimed as its chair, his fifth consecutive year leading the board. Vice has been with the CH board for 11 years.
Cathy Duddeck, a town councilor in Oakville, was elected as vice-chair for the first time.
The chair and vice-chair are elected by members of the Conservation Halton board of directors for one-year terms. They must be current members of the Conservation Halton board and are nominated by their peers.
“…. It’s a unique place to be and an honour to serve. I’ve been on the board for 11 years and there is some really good stuff happening especially in the areas of education and recreation, where Conservation Halton is a leader,” Vice said in a press release.
The CH board is comprised of elected officials and citizen representatives appointed by the communities within Conservation Halton’s watershed — four reps each for Burlington and Oakville, three for Milton, two each for Halton Hills, Mississauga/Peel Region and Hamilton, and one for Puslinch.
The first meeting of the new four-year term welcomed eight new members to the 18-person Conservation Halton Board.
Among the new reps is Jim Sweetlove, a citizen rep for Burlington; he previously served as a citizen rep for Hamilton, but was not on the board during the previous term.
Milton Mayor Gord Krantz has been on the CH board since 1973.
Among the eight board members leaving CH was former longtime Oakville councillor Keith Bird who served as a CH director or on its foundation board for 37 years.
