The young golden retriever found by Halton police Sunday night in rural Milton has been named Dolly.
Staff at the Burlington Animal Shelter where the canine was taken have affectionately given her the name, and say she’s a good dog with a nice temperament, a bit on the shy side.
Shelter supervisor Dave Lake said the facility will take applications for Dolly after she receives what he guesses will be a clean bill of health this afternoon during a veterinarian check.
After that, she’ll be spayed and then she will be ready for adoption.
“We’ll go through an application process to find her a good match,” he said.
Public interest in the dog has garnered “incredible response,” according to Lake, after police tweeted a photo of her.
She didn’t have any identification and wasn’t microchipped when she was spotted on First Line, north of No. 20 Sideroad in Nassagaweya.
Lake said Dolly has a good coat, appears to be in good health and is friendly and very loveable.
