A Milton family is homeless after fire destroyed their two-storey, detached Donnelly Street home late Saturday night.

Twenty firefighters with three pumpers and one aerial truck battled the blaze, which began around 10:30 p.m.,with firefighters remaining on scene for several hours.

Milton Fire Chief Brian Ellsworth said the damage is estimated at more than $500,000. He also said the Ontario Fire Marshal’s office was being notified. In addition to the home, three vehicles were also destroyed.

When firefighters arrived on scene, the garage area was fully involved with flames already spreading to the second storey and up to the roof.

A female occupant of the home was taken to hospital by Halton EMS to be checked out. There were no other reports of injuries to any other occupants of the home or from firefighters battling the fire.

This is the second house fire in as many days. Another occurred Friday afternoon on Scott Boulevard.

There is no word yet as to a possible cause of the Saturday night blaze, as firefighters were still extinguishing hot spots well into Sunday morning and had not yet been able to make enter the house to investigate.
