Capturing the essence of life will be the focus of a book launch event October 3.

That’s when local photographer Laurie Goodman will officially introduce her Life Messages: Book of Inspirational Canadian Women — doing so at a free event Campbellville’s Mohawk Inn and Conference Centre (9230 Guelph Line).

The 152-page book features black and white photographs of women holding up signs with inspirational messages — as well as their individual stories.

Goodman’s Life Messages project quickly grew after she first began photographing women writing inspirational messages on a chalkboard — in an effort to inspire and empower other women.

The idea eventually blossomed into a book.

Hard copies of the book will be available on a first-come-first-serve basis for $85, while soft-cover copies cost $59. A portion of the sales will go to Girls Inc. of Halton.

The October 3 event runs from 7 to 10 p.m., with a number of the women featured in the book to speak starting at 8.

Refreshments will also be served.
