As a candidate for the Liberal nomination in the new federal riding of Milton, Jeff Raulino believes decisions made today should stand the test of time.

“Before making important decisions, I always ask myself – what will they think 100 years from now,” said Raulino, 37, a real estate agent and small business owner.

Also seeking the nomination are Azim Rizvee, Zeeshan Hamid and Martyn Johns.

This is his first entry into the political ring although he has been a party volunteer for five years and was vice-president in the previous Halton riding before the new riding was created.

He said he believes it’s time for “a new generation” of Canadians to “step up and serve this great country.”

His variety of perspectives from the trades, from the real estate industry, from a small business owner and as a father makes him the ideal choice, he said.

“I’m also not afraid to ask questions or to ask for help,” Raulino said. “I will be a voice when all others are quiet… I’m willing to work with all parties no matter their political beliefs with the common goal of building a better Canada.”

As far as some of the issues facing the country, Raulino said Canada needs to ensure its military is properly equipped.

“We are a peace-keeping nation but if we need to send our soldiers into harms way, it’s our duty to ensure they are properly protected,” he said.

He said he favours the decriminalization of marijuana but believes the decision should come through a referendum.

“The burden of carrying a criminal record for possession of a small amount of marijuana is not only costing taxpayers but changing futures of individuals carrying these records,” Raulino said.

He said Canada needs to invest in renewable energy and infrastructure to support clean energy.

Canada should embrace immigrants, Raulino said, not make it harder for people to become citizens, so long as they contribute to society and not take advantage of the system.
