The race for smart-watches just gained another competitor. The Razer Nabu moves one step closer to becoming a reality as $1 beta tester editions just ended recently.
It doesn't end there especially as Razer just tapped into a market with over 400 million daily active users. Their latest deal with Tancent may set them as the ultimate smart-band to date.
The Razer Nabu app hit the Play Store assisting beta users in the setup and pairing process. It also allows for adjustments to the band’s settings once set up is complete, including screen brightness, wrist placement, vibration, screen time out, and customization of the display.
The Nabu missed its scheduled first quarter release due to concerns regarding the band. Razer pushed for a hypoallergenic certification to minimize the health concerns after the Fitbit, a competing fitness tracker, caused irritating skin reactions.
The Razer Nabu aims to be more than just a smartwatch or fitness tracker. It's all that, but more.
The partnership with Tancent to integrate the WeChat social portal shows Razer is bringing a Tinder-like ability to their Nabu smartband.
Taking features such as the proximity or action sensoring, users can interact and exchange phone numbers just by coming within range or shaking hands. As Forbes puts it, "it will do everything a smartwatch and fitness band does, with social capabilities on an open platform."
Razer did not announce the offical price yet, but it expects to ship millions of units under $100 each. It will be made available in China first in the fourth quarter of this year.
