The annual Privateer Road Race returns on July 12, and organizer Jack Fancy hopes to get more locals out and active in the race.
"What I want to do is encourage more local people to come out for the 2 mile road race," he says.
The race has two lengths, the five-mile that loops around Milton, and the two mile road race that follows the Trestle Trail. Both races start at the same time, 8:30 a.m., by the Liverpool Fire Hall
Last year they had a large turnout, says Fancy, with over 180 people taking part. This isn't likely to change either, as the Privateer Road Race was voted the Best Road Race by Run Nova Scotia in 2013. However with that many people, results can be difficult to track.
"It's a long delay (to get results), and mistakes can be made," he says of the previous system they used.
This year they are using chip trackers, worn on the runner's body, which are linked to each runner and register when they cross the finish line. That means results are posted quickly and ranked easily.
Racers can then gather at the Liverpool Fire Hall, where medals will be handed out to the runners.
After the races, showers are available from 9 a.m. to noon at Queens Place Emera Centre for the runners to use.
Registration is $10 for the two mile run, and $35 for the five mile run.
