Devil-horned selfies are being spread far and wide around the globe via Twitter — all part of a campaign to grant a Milton man’s wish.

Friends of Mike Box, 37, a married father of two young sons, tweeted that his three-year battle with a rare form of cancer is drawing to an end.

His wish is for people to take devil-horned selfies and tweet #MikeBoxRocks to support his battle. His ultimate goal is to have his favourite band Metallica Tweet such a photo.

A long-time rocker himself, Box was diagnosed with a cancer oncologists are treating as non-Hodgkin lymphoma in 2011.

Friends immediately stepped up to help fundraise for the father, holding several events last year, including a concert.

A graduate of E.C. Drury High School and Ford Motor Company employee, Box is a drummer who’s been playing with local bands most of his life.

When planning last year’s concert, guitarist and best friend Derek McGowan said Box has great spirit.

“When he’s happy about stuff, he gets really excited, especially about what he’s passionate about,” he said. “He’s got a youthful part of him and the last thing you want to see is his spirit die down.”

His spirits must be lifted by the interest on Twitter – thousands have already Tweeted selfies with the hashtag #MikeBoxRocks. Celebrities, including National Hockey League players, George Stroumboulopoulos and Canadian Olympic medalist Adam van Koeverden are among them.
