Blue Dot Milton is taking part in a project that aims to get Canadians to recognize their right to live in a healthy environment.
Blue Dot, a project of the David Suzuki Foundation, will hold ‘Connect the Blue Dots’ national day of action on Sunday, Apr. 19 to celebrate the thousands of Canadians who have joined this grassroots movement sweeping Canada.
As part of the day, new organization Blue Dot Milton will meet at the gazebo by the Mill Pond at 2 p.m. when residents can share ideas and add a voice. In case of rain, the event will be held downstairs at the Ivy Arms (use the door from the rear parking lot).
According to organizers, Blue Dot is a movement of people who believe that all Canadians deserve to breathe fresh air, drink clean water, eat healthy food and have a say in decisions that affect the environment.
Organizers, including local resident Jim Steeves, say that more than 110 nations recognize their citizens' right to live in a healthy environment, but that Canada isn’t one of them.
Steeves said that so far, 28 communities – including Victoria, Montreal, Yellowknife and Hamilton — have passed municipal declarations in support of the right to a healthy environment.
