The Halton District School Board will be hosting three evening sessions designed to help parents and guardians support their children’s mathematics development.
There will be discussion around research into mathematics education and how parents and guardians can support their child in developing positive attitudes toward math.
Each session runs from 7-8 p.m. at the following locations:
• Wednesday, April 8 at M.M. Robinson H.S., in the studio theatre
• Tuesday, April 14 at Milton District H.S., in the studio theatre
• Monday, April 20 at White Oaks S.S. North Campus, in the cafeteria
Parents and guardians are invited to attend any of three sessions, where they will be provided with strategies to support children in developing confidence with mathematics.
In particular, they will learn about the Growth Mindset approach, which focuses on the idea that students can improve their numeracy through hard work and dedication.
It is the second round of parent math sessions.
Last fall, more than 500 parents and guardians participated in learning events offered at the annual Parent Involvement Committee Conference, as well as the adaptive learning program DreamBox evening sessions.
“Parent engagement is a critical focus for our board,” Terri Blackwell, the board’s system principal of school programs, said in a press release.
“We know our parents play an important role in their child’s attitude toward, and success with, mathematics.”
