March is National Probus Month, and Milton’s second such club, the Escarpment Probus Club, will be recognizing the event with a membership drive.
The club, which formed 15 months ago, boasts 150 members comprised of residents of the town and its environs who are retired or semi-retired men and women.
They meet generally the third Wednesday of each month in the Banquet Hall at the Milton Sports Centre starting at 9:30 a.m., according to club president Cliff Read. Meetings include a short business session, coffee/social break and guest speaker.
Over the past 15 months speakers have informed and members on Halton Region development plans, Milton District Hospital expansion plans, forensic dentistry, starting a vineyard in Argentina, Canadian history, nordic pole walking and other topics.
Smaller groups of the membership also meet regularly to indulge in wine tasting, bridge, euchre and cribbage. Outings have included trips to the Niagara wine region, a local craft brewery, the Canadian Warplane Heritage, a car treasure hunt and a picnic at Lowville Park.
New members are always welcome, Read noted. Anyone interested can go to www.escarpmentprobus.com.
