The Weather Network forecasts - 40 C with windchill for Sunday
Several rounds of Siberian air are tracking across the Great Lakes with the potential of sending Halton Region into a deep freeze for the Family Day long weekend.
Environment Canada is warning of a strong cold front that will push through the area on Thursday, making it feel like –30 C with the windchill by the afternoon and continuing through Friday.
Winds are forecast at 30 km/h from the northwest.
The deep freeze is expected to persist through the weekend.
Oakville-based The Weather Network, is reporting temperatures could feel like –40 C with the windchill on Sunday.
The weather agency reported temperatures would warm slightly for Family Day, with sun in the forecast, but still feel around –20 C with the windchill.
Pending an official extreme cold alert being issued by Environment Canada and/or Halton Region, residents advised to be mindful of the elements.
Those particularly at increase risk are seniors, infants, the homeless, outdoor workers, those with medical conditions such as diabetes, anyone with diseases affecting the blood vessels, people taking certain medications including beta-blockers, winter enthusiasts, and those consuming excess alcohol.
Residents are advised to wear synthetic and wool fabrics that provide effective insulation. You can also keep warm by dressing in layers and wearing a wind-resistant outer layer.
It’s also advised that you protect extremeties such as your nose and hands by wearing warm socks, gloves, a hat and scarf.
