Plenty of toys and money were raised, once again, for less fortunate children and families in Halton at Christmastime.
The 2014 Toys for Tots campaign spearheaded by Halton Regional Police collected more than $226,800 worth of toys, gift cards, cash and food donations.
The donations benefited more than 4,000 families throughout the region over the Christmas season.
In the last four years, the program has raised more than $1,167,995 through the support of citizens, businesses, schools and teams.
Halton police’s community partners in the annual endeavour are the Minor Oaks Hockey Association and the Burlington Lions Optimist Minor Hockey Association, who collectively raised more than $55,000 in 2014.
In 2014, both civilian and uniform members of Halton police contributed their own time and personal funds to assist in the campaign once again.
Members collected more than $47,000 in cash and toys at Canadian Tire locations and donated more than $3,500 through individual fundraisers and a gift card challenge.
Other community partners who made significant contributions to Toys for Tots in 2014 included Halton Catholic and public elementary schools, Canadian Tire, St. Mildred’s-Lightbourn School in Oakville, TD/Canada Trust, Mandarin Restaurant, Halton Honda, Eastside Auto and the Tiger Jeet Singh Foundation.
