A lot of dominance and some timely drama.

The combination paid championship dividends for the Winterhawks AA atoms recently, as they went unbeaten to win the Pittsburgh Columbus Day Clash Tournament.

After three lopsided victories, Milton needed some overtime heroics to clinched the title — eclipsing the Steel City Ice Renegades 3-2.

Luca Spagnolo scored the golden goal, with Travis Harrison setting him up. Luke Johnston shared the spotlight, notching his team-leading seventh goal of the tournament with just 1:47 remaining to force sudden death.

Johnston and Spagnolo also assisted on the initial goal, by Jaden Lee.

Mathieu Theoret was between the pipes for the championship win, which followed a 3-0 round-robin campaign in which the Winterhawks won by no less than five goals.

Victories came over the Renegades (9-3), Windsor Jr. Spitfires (6-1) and West Chester Quakers (5-0).

More than a dozen Winterhawks recorded points at the tournament, while Theoret and tandem partner Logan Miziolek finished with a combined goals-against average of 1.5.

Milton’s AA atoms have been even more impressive defensively in league play, having given up just 10 goals in a 9-0 start that has them firmly atop the Tri County Bowen Division.
