Named one of the Top 100 festivals in the province by Festivals and Events Ontario, the Downtown Milton Street Festival returns on Saturday.
From noon to 11 p.m. Milton’s Main Street, between Brown and Fulton streets, will be closed for a full day of entertainment, including musicians, artisans, buskers and community groups.
Hosted by the Town of Milton and the Downtown Milton Business Improvement Area (DBIA), the street-fest draws thousands of people each year.
"The event really has something for everyone to enjoy. The day will be filled with a great selection of entertainment, kids activities, food and shopping,” said Katrina Lemire, executive director at the DBIA. “I'm most excited about welcoming residents and visitors to our beautiful downtown district and showcasing all of the shops, restaurants and services we have to offer."
Milton community members and visitors alike can enjoy free admission and free transit to a multitude of entertainment choices. The festival includes two stages of live entertainment and two performance areas, featuring over 40 performing artists who will present live music, comedy and demonstrations.
There will be music for all tastes and ages, including folk, jazz, rock, hip hop, soul, swing, big band, Celtic, country and more.
Visitors can also enjoy restaurants and expanded outdoor patios as well as more than 100 participating vendors, shops and businesses.
The "Kidz Zone" will be open from noon to 9 p.m. and will provide free, fun-filled activities for children of all ages, including air bouncies. The “BMX Zone” will have demonstrations and a rock wall climbing.
The Downtown Milton Street Festival is continuing its green initiatives and will feature water hydration stations, recycling centres on the street and bike racks at select locations. Visitors are encouraged to bring refillable water bottles to the event and ensure all garbage is put in its proper place.
Community members are encouraged to leave their cars at home and take Milton Transit to the festival. Service will be free system-wide and be extended into the evening until approximately 12:30 a.m.
