Aerial skier Travis Gerrits was joined by his extended family, the Town of Milton, on Family Day on February 17. Just about everyone in town packed the Milton Sports Centre gymnasium early in the morning to cheer on Travis live during his big day of competition on the other side of the world.
In the years leading up to the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, Russia, Travis has made countless community appearances, and made even more friends along the way. Although Travis won't be returning to Milton with a medal, he put on a heck of a show that made both an entire town and nation proud.
It was a rocky start for Travis, who took a tumble during his first qualifying jump. But with the pressure on, Gerrits recovered with a spectacular second jump. Gerrits never looked back, reaching the second round of 12 and then qualified for the round of 8. Travis ended the day 7th among 21 freestyle skiers.
